Belville

Belville, North Carolina is a very small one street town, about 5 miles outside of Wilmington, NC. It’s very run down. Most of the buildings are abandoned, demolished or just plain ghetto. There is an old abandoned truck stop that used to sell barbecue to go in Styrofoam boxes. A very rundown motel that a handful of people live in year round. From what I hear, this is where a few Prostitutes put on the red light. There is also a small shack with no signs or anything at the end of the street that is a mexican bar. Hopefully next time I’m home I’ll have more time to shoot here.

More from the Class of 2018.

I wanted to post a few more cause these kids are freakin awesome. We brought McDonalds as our lunch and I was nervous that the kids would be jealous of my burger, but none of them cared at all. I tried to trade with the girl next to me for her BBQ chicken wings but no dice. She just smiled, shakin her head no. I said “What’s up my name is Russ.” and she said “My name is Lela and I’ve been here seven days. Next week I’m gonna be five.” “You’re very honest and down to the key points” I say and she says “mmhmmm yeah i know it.” I can’t wait to have lunch with them again.

Hosey

Loho Studio.

Recently, at about 2 in the morning I had the opportunity to take some publicity photos of a friend,Jeremy Adona, at Loho Studios in downtown Manhattan. His version of Love Vigilante originally by New Order is amazing…He’ll be famous in seconds, you should check him out. So during one of the songs i had some break time so I decided to take some shots of the legendary studio where freakin everyone cool has recorded. Patty Smith, Willie Nelson and Ryan Adams to name a few. Here are a couple of shots.

School Daze

While on a recient trip home to NC, I had lunch with my niece and the rest of her kindergarden class at her school. Kids at that age are amazing. One kid Alex told me that Doritos make your brain bigger and smarter and that he eats them everyday. They were so upfront and just said whatever was on there mind. Plus out of all the pictures that i took, not one of the kids turned away from my camera. There was no care of how they were gonna look in the picture, good or bad. No self-esteem issues that make a person throw a hand in front of their face. I wish there was an easy way to relearn that carefree mentaility when you’re an adult….other than beer.

Mannequin Project

This is an on going project I’m working on right now using found mannequins throughout nyc. They range from beautiful to a little creepy…from day to night time, shot mostly through glass using reflections of the surrounding cityscapes.
